well well well

the next adventure on our list of summer fun was an unexpected treasure hunt to find our well. apparently the little spring thingy that creates suction to make our well prime was broken. Easy enough to fix. . . just replace it. The problem? We had no idea where our well WAS!
After the "Well Man" had been here twice in one day to fix our pump, it was short-cycling again within an hour after he left. Our options were to hire a  contractor to bring in an excavator (the boys' preference) OR start digging ourselves, and hope we strike gold (ie, our well).
So that evening, of course, right after tubby time as we were getting C and K ready for bed, Dave decided to start digging according to the trusty diagram we'd discovered next to our pump in the basement. it was a little piece of paper with a dotted line from our basement door that said 6', with an "x" marks the spot kind of symbol.  It was a little hard to deny the boys the chance to be part of the action. So out they went out to help (and to get dirty)... did i mention it was right after their bath??. . .

WELL, we didn't find it. 3 feet by 3 feet later, we were a little discouraged... there wasn't much more we could do, as no matter which way we dug, we hit rock.
The next morning we were contemplating an excavator, when our Well Guy showed up, dug another inch to the right, and struck pipe! Thank God!!

The boys spent the entire afternoon as close to the action as they could possibly be.
They were enamored with Phil, the Well Guy, and Kyren could NOT resist exploring his tool box...

They played with every piece of extra pipe, wire, hose, etc they could get their hands on...
and played this game over and over again:

Phil left them with the important job of filling the holes back in with dirt.
And believe me, they took their job seriously!

We are now a little more educated and a little more thankful for how we get our water!

Hmmm, really strange to me to be reading this. I had no clue this all was going on. Guess my mind was on other things, and tis when we see one another daily! Crazy.
